Sovereign debt

Depressing quote of the day:

The euro elite is utterly ruthless. In its mission to save the euro, it is ready to throw tens of millions out of work and in the process destroy businesses, lives and whole economies.

The UK is awash with righteous anger because George Osborne is hacking 7 billion off the benefits budget, yet Alistair Darling's last act as Chancellor was to sign the UK up for 8 billion squids' worth of creamy EU bailout goodness, even though the UK isn't part of the eurozone. And if Ireland and Portugal and Greece and Spain fold, it's going to cost the UK a lot more than 8 billion.

The euro was a bad idea from day one, nothing can change that. What a mess.
