# I'm comin' out!

Hoo boy. Whole new world of newness. The Linux installer script is fairly comprehensive, but glitch one happened when setting up.

[colin@rohan data]$ /opt/lotus/bin/server
./java -ss512k -Xoss5M -cp jhall.jar:cfgdomserver.jar:Notes.jar lotus.domino.setup.WizardManagerDomino -data /home/colin/data
Please edit your shell's DISPLAY environment variable to reflect an unlocked terminal that you would like to launch the Domino Setup Program on.
*Warning all runtime debug info will be logged to /home/colin/data/setuplog.txt

Local setup needs X windows, or else one needs to do it remotely using a nifty java-based client. Notes.net mentions the installation redbook, so yours truly reckons that perhaps it's time to RTFM, the M being this puppy.

Hasn't helped me though, 'cause I'm running into Network comms errors at the final step, even though I'm able to successfully ping when I start up. Not the end of the world, I'm sure I'm just doing something stupid. Tomorrow's another day.

PS: I wouldn't dream of using a personal user account to run Domino in a production environment, but on my home rigs, it's a whole world of simplicity having it as part of my day-to-day account

with me the same happened - and apparently was happening just because my firewall script blocked necessary connections... took me an hour to find out though.. (running domino 6.0.1 on fedora core3)

Same here. installed to SUSE 9.3 and Fedora 3. 'DISPLAY' problem both, then tried remotely...but getting the network errors there. anyone have the steps necessary to fix this? I tried the 'export display' stuff on linux, didnt work. The remote method seems the most promising...

Got it to work. Final step was to 'stop' the firewall on the Linux box and then my XP admin machine could do the remote setup. Now, need to figure out what to turn back on in the Linux firewall!

Try this:

export DISPLAY=<IP address of your PC>:0.0

7. Marco (2005.10.30 - 07:51) #

Open a new terminal, su to it and type 'xhost +'. From the terminal that you are notes user, log out and back in. Start the setup by typing
cd /opt/lotus/notesdata/ (or whatever)
/opt/lotus/bin/server

This should work. Note that xhost reveils a security threat, so restart the server after you're done setting up the machine.
